After what was a crazy week last week, today I am bringing you 2 weeks blog in 1.
The weekend of 13/14th April we headed down to Southampton for English Qualifier 1, well it couldn’t have gone much better if i’m honest, coming away with 100% routine completion and 3 medals. A full competition report can be found on the Latest News page.
As promised in my last blog, we have brought you a day in the life of one of our gymnasts, we have brought this to you from Jessica, she is 9 years old and the English competition was her first competition on a national level, here is what she had to say…
“I set an alarm for 7am and then had 30 minutes relaxing in bed watching tv before it was time to get up and have my hair done, I was really excited to put on my leotard as it was the first time I was wearing my nationals leotard. My mum started to receive good luck messages from club members and family which gave me a lot of confidence, at 8.30am it was time to leave the hotel for the sports centre.
The nerves started to kick in when we arrived because the venue felt much bigger than anything i’d ever competed in before but before I got the chance to compete I watched Aidan and Libby who were up first. I started to relax when it was time to warm up on the floor, I warmed up with Aimee who was a good distraction. Now it was my turn to get on the trampoline and warm up, my routines went ok but not as well as I wanted.
Warm ups done it was time for my first routine, I was really nervous but really proud when I finished my routine, for my second routine the nerves weren’t as bad as I knew I could do it. I was very happy to finish my second routine.
I felt my first national competition went well and I was happy with my routines but feel I could move up a few places at the next qualifier, I am less nervous going into the next competition”.
Following the success of the competition, we were invited to attend BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio station (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p074tjfj) to talk about the competition, Libby (gold medalist) and myself headed down to the station. It’s always a lovely experience at the radio station and we thank the station for their support.
A full weeks training followed and then a weekend off for the Easter break was much needed, we were straight back into training Tuesday with a full and lots of hardwork in preparation for Spring Series 1 this weekend in Telford.
The final thing I need to tell you this week is we have finally launch our ‘Jump for City of Sport’ Competition, watch this space we have lots of exciting things to come!
Have a great weekend!
