On Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April we attended the British Gymnastics Spring Series 1 competition at the International Centre, Telford.
11 of our gymnasts were starting their pledge to either qualify for the NDP Finals in July or British Championships in September.
Day 1 – Saturday
Aidan and Jessica started off the competition in the 9-10 categories, two great routines from Aidan saw him finish in 5th place. Unfortunately Jessica made an error in her second routine so didn’t complete and finished in 11th place. For both of them this was their first spring series competition and at such a young age, they did us proud.
Next to go was Libby and Aimee in the 11-12 girls category, both girls completed all three routines brilliantly. Aimee went on to take the gold medal and qualification to NDP finals, Libby wasn’t far behind taking the silver and with fab scores looks to be in a brilliant position to head to NDP finals.
Liza was next in the 13-14 category, after having some time off due to illness Liza performed three good routines to finish in 9th place.
Last up on the Saturday was Amber and Kim, for Amber this was her first competition back to national level after an illness which nearly saw her have to give up the sport. Her routines were fab and she finished in 18th place. Kim as taking on Spring series for the first time and with two great routines she took home the gold medal.
Day 2 – Sunday
First up was Jemma in the 11-12 category, after a wobbly first routine she settled down for two great routines and finished in 3rd place, taking home the bronze.
Will was next, unfortunately it wasn’t Will’s day, he performed his first and third routines really well but unfortunately failed to complete his second routine. Hopefully he can go on to complete three routines at the next event. Will finished in 15th place.
After lunch it was George’s turn, George is well experienced at this level and was looking forward to a great competition. He performed an incredible first routine putting him a great position for his second. He stepped up for his second and performed it the best he had ever done in competition. George went on to finish in 3rd place but most importantly he has qualified to the BRITISH CHAMPIONHIPS 2019!
Finally, our last competitor of the day was Dan, after seeing the success of the weekend Dan had a lot of pressure. Competing at this level for the first time Dan performed amazingly well to finish in 8th place.
Overall, a brilliant competition, we couldn’t ask for much more. Back to the gym to make those changes ready for Spring Series 2 at the beginning of June.
